Latin Name Pneumatopteris pennigera
Common Name Gully fern (Pakau is maori name)
A tufted ground fern sometimes forming a small trunk.
Not particular about soil type but needs a damp, sheltered position protected from frost.
Fronds can get to 175 cm long on a mature plant.
This fern is called the gully fern but so sometimes is Blechnum novae zealandiae - confused? Yeah so are we so in interests of keeping things simple we will not call novae zealandiae a Gully fern!!
